Animals

 The desert has many animals. For example,an Armadillo Lizard can curl into a ball and look like a pebble. A Bobcat many habitats, but the most common place is in a southwestern desert. Other animals are Banded Gila Monsters, Desert Toads, Thorny Devils, Cactus Ferruginoug Pygmys, and Coyotes.

Vegetation

           There are many types of desert plants. The Barrel Cactus does not look like a barrel. It is very spiky, and can protect its self easily. The Desert Ironwood only grows in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. The Yellow Palo Verde is a very strange looking shrub or a small tree which grows in the Sonoran

Desert. The Ocotillo is another kind of plant. So as the Joshua Tree and the Mojave Aster.

Cold deserts

          You are now in Greenland at a cold desert. These deserts have cold and snowy winters. They also have moderately warm summers and some heavy rainfall in Autumn. The largest desert is in Antarctica. Can you believe that!

Desert Biomes

You have entered the Desert Biome. You should listen to the tour guide, me. I will take you on a journey through the harsh deserts of the world.

       You have entered a desert, in the southwestern part of the U.S. Where the saguaro cactus lives. This biome is really hot in the daytime, and it gets cooler in night. At midday it is so hot you can not walk in the desert. A regular desert receives less than 25cm of rain fall per year.  The amount of evaporation is greater than the amount of precipitation. Some deserts don't get any precipitation in 1 whole year! Some of the typical organisms in the desert are, Saguaro Cactus, Gambel's Quail, Javelinas, Camels, Bobcats, Desert Tortoises and, reptiles. It is home of the most poisonious scorpion in the world! Lots of snakes live there too, such as the, rattlesnakes, Black Mambas, and King Cobras. Organisms have to adapt to the extreme weather and climate.

         The plants in a desert are mostly shrubs and low growing trees. Since there is not a lot of water, cacti have to use special adaptions to get water. The saguaro cactus has little pockets for water storage, so when it needs water for photosynthesis it can use its saved water.The desert is a harsh invirement for plants and animals.
